Piano Inspection & Assessment Singapore
Our certified technicians produce a comprehensive 20-point written condition report covering every major system of your piano — action, strings, soundboard, pin block, pedals, and cabinet. Ideal before purchasing a used piano or after years without service.
What Our Piano Inspection Covers
A piano is a complex instrument with over 10,000 parts. Our 20-point inspection systematically evaluates every major structural, mechanical, and acoustic component, producing a clear written report in plain English that any piano owner can understand.
Tuning & Pitch
Current pitch level relative to A440; tuning stability; whether a pitch raise will be required.
Pin Block
Condition of the pin block and tuning pins; signs of looseness or cracking that affect tuning stability.
Strings
Rust, corrosion, or breakage of treble and bass strings; overall string condition and remaining useful life.
Soundboard
Cracks, separations, or delamination of the soundboard and ribs; bridge condition and glue joints.
Action & Hammers
Hammer wear, repetition spring condition, action regulation status, centre pin wear, and key bushing condition.
Pedals & Cabinet
Pedal mechanism function; lyre condition; cabinet and veneer condition; caster and lid hardware.
When Do You Need a Piano Inspection?
- Before buying a used piano: The most important use case. A S$80–S$150 inspection can reveal thousands of dollars in required repairs — or confirm you are getting good value.
- After years without service: If your piano has not been professionally serviced in five or more years, an inspection gives you a clear picture of what it needs.
- When you hear unusual sounds: Buzzes, rattles, dead notes, or tonal irregularities often have a specific mechanical cause that the inspection will identify.
- For insurance purposes: Some insurers require a condition report for high-value instruments. We provide a signed written report suitable for insurance documentation.
- When considering restoration: Before committing to a full restoration or major repair, an inspection helps you understand the scope of work and prioritise what truly needs attention.
Pre-Purchase Piano Inspection
Buying a used piano in Singapore is a significant investment. Prices for decent second-hand uprights start at S$500 and can exceed S$10,000 for a quality used grand. A professional pre-purchase inspection is the only reliable way to know what you are actually buying.
We travel to the piano's current location anywhere in Singapore — private homes, piano dealers, schools, storage facilities, or estate clearances. After a thorough inspection, we provide a written condition report that clearly states:
- What is in good working condition
- What will need attention in the near future (and approximate cost)
- What requires major repair or is not economically repairable
- An overall rating of the piano's condition and value
This report gives you objective information to negotiate the purchase price or walk away from a poor deal.
Inspection vs Tuning
An inspection is a diagnostic exercise, not a repair. After the inspection, you will know exactly what your piano needs. We recommend booking a tuning at the same visit wherever possible — this allows the technician to assess pitch stability dynamically while tuning, providing additional information beyond the static inspection. When inspection and tuning are booked together, we offer a discounted combined rate.
