A piano is a precision instrument with thousands of parts. In Singapore's tropical climate, regular maintenance is essential. This checklist covers what you can do yourself and what needs a professional.

Monthly: Owner Tasks

• Check room humidity — use a hygrometer to verify RH is 45–65%. Adjust dehumidifier or AC if needed.
• Wipe down key surfaces — use a soft, slightly damp cloth. Dry immediately. Never use household cleaners on keys.
• Wipe the cabinet exterior — soft dry or slightly damp cloth; follow the wood grain.
• Keep the lid closed when not in use — reduces dust accumulation on strings and action.
• Play all 88 keys — check for any sticky, stuck, or silent notes. Early detection prevents bigger issues.

Every 6 Months: Professional Tuning

• Book a professional tuning appointment — minimum twice per year in Singapore. January and July, or February and August, are typical schedules.
• During the tuning appointment, the technician should also check for: sticky keys, worn hammers, damper issues, string buzzes.
• Note any changes in how the piano feels or sounds since the last appointment — tell the tuner.

Every 1–2 Years: Action Check
